With a cherry on top!

I know, I know... black, white and red are very popular combinations in outfit choices. They're safe, classic and usually hard to screw up (though you shouldn't really care about screwing up your outfits, fashion should always be about having fun with the clothes you wear and feeling good/comfortable in them, your mileage may vary on that).

As soon I saw this little red number on sale I knew I had to pick it up to pair it with this polka dot dress.
Speaking of the dress, I'm aware that I posted another entry with it not to long ago, but I felt like showing it off again. So what if it's too short for my still growing tree stumps (I swear!)...slap on some tights, thrust yourself into the brutal cold and call it a day!

Sunset...

One of the main reasons I started this style blog, other than wanting to have a little fun with my clothes and to be a tiny bit more daring in my choices (yeah, I know...stop laughing imaginary people), was to truly dig into my closet and revisit some of the articles of clothing that I've neglected over time.

One of the treasures I recently discovered again that was deep (I'm talking deep ya'll) within was this sweater from H&M a couple/few years back. To you, it might not be much of anything. You know, it's your typical preppy stripped sweater. To me, I still remember the vibrant splash of colours immediately jumping out in the store's display case and that I had to get it that. very. second. Of course, I put it down after a bit and haven't really worn it until, well...now.

One of my style goals this year is for sure to inject as many bright shades in as I can, whether it be clothes, accessories or shoes. It just does something for you mood...puts a little ta, ta, ta in your step, a little energy in your system. Makes you feel a little more confident. I know that may sound a little silly (or a lot silly), but any little thing you can do to make your day a little happier...

Sunrise...

In The Sun is one of songs I love off of She & Him volume 2 (what a happy video too!) and that was the song that was playing in a constant loop inside my head while taking the following photos.

The outfit was nothing special, but the sun was just brilliant..there was no other way to describe it. I got massive attack of whopping coughs afterwards but it was well worth it for just a few of pics to capture some of it. I'm no professional photographer, but gorgeous rays will always be paramount to me. All this weather talk..jeez.

It's Complicated on Family Day (Har, Har Har)

Thankfully today is Family Day for us Canuck's (and President's Day for American's). My big plans for the day before heading back to work is to simply watch It's  Complicated with Meryl Streep (I've watched it 100 times already and it doesn't even matter - Meryl is incredible and could play Batman and still be the right choice) and to finally start reading I Am Number Four. One of my big guilty pleasures in life is to read as many YA fictional novels as possible. YA can have a few surprise gems out there yet a lot of people won't give them a second glance simply because it's YA.  I say if the subject matter is interesting...why not? The movie is out as well this weekend and I swear the trailers remind me so much of Roswell (Fantastic young adult tv series in the late 90's) that I can't help but give this book a chance.

As for the outfits for this post, I decided to try indoor shots this time around. If I'm being completely honest, I'm not a fan of indoor shots unless the interior is full of life. As much as I've complained about the weather already, I prefer running around outside with the wind backhanding my face with the natural light streaming all around vs. being trapped indoors with very tiny cluttered spaces to work with. Ya know, learning curve and all that. But it snowed again and we'll have to shovel once again, so I got these few shots in as quickly as I could.Oh well.

Take care,

I Present To You...A Paper Crown For Your Time.

Didn't I tell you already that any smart arse titles just aren't going to come my way. *Just kidding*

Anyhow, I know I've recently posted about Lauren Conrad's new line for Kohl's but she has another line coming out as well called Paper Crown. I think this line in particular will be a little more upscale, yet her personal touches will still resonate throughout the line.

Yes, some may argue that this line (in addition to her Kohl's line) isn't breaking any new ground, with the classic cuts and neutral palette.  I'm not one of those people. I  .love. every. single. piece. Even the dresses I know won't flatter my figure in the least still look very appealing. One of the dresses in particular (that I've posted below), has a creamy backdrop with a soft, romantic print interweaving throughout...and it looks fantastic!

I swear, she always gets it right!

Check out some of my faves....

Insert "witty" title here!

Creative little rascal, aren't I? Yeah well, it's thursday and I just don't feel like coming up with anything clever to put down as a title (not that my other titles thus far have been stimulating...go easy on me). The weather has been improving, so I'll stop belly aching at Canada/Mother Nature (for now), but the natural light is still quite dull in the evenings by time I get home...and to be honest, this has been one of the longest weeks ever! The haze of sleep still hasn't lifted from my body, and I feel like I'm moving in quicksand in general. The creative juices simply aren't flowing into full gear at the time being and I'm still learning about getting comfortable in front of the camera (and operating one). You can't help but feel vulnerable and down right silly, smiling for no apparent reason.

Yet here I am, still trying to scrap up some photo's just so I can practice techniques, judge distances etc..so when Spring/Summer roll around, the shots can be a little more dynamic in style. I've said it before, blogging well to attract a loyal following is a huge learning curve. Others may laugh at that statement and say there are many difficult obstacles in life and blogging isn't/shouldn't be one of them, but bah...whatever.

I have to at least try, right? I've loved fashion blogs for so long that it's only fair to try my own shake at it. Whether I sink or swim...

Sapphire Lights, Sapphire Nights

For some reason or another, Blue seems to be the colour of choice for New York Fashion Week this year. Maybe it's just me and my old crazy brain, but the theme of blue seems to be popping up quite a bit on the runways, so why not take a page out of that book and come up with my own tribute to the best of the best in the rainbow (not a huge leap for me, blue has been my fave since childhood *shrugs*)?

Let me tell you, the cardigan is something of a mystery to me. I bought it awhile back as a last minute -throw in the online shopping cart to top off your order so you make it worth it to spend that kind of money on international shipping- item, and it has taken me months to finally put it on. It's beautiful enough, but the shoulder cream puffs (as I call them) put me off a bit while viewing it person vs how it looked to me online. But see, the whole point of getting this blog started in the first place was to get me to take a second glance at my closet and experiment with the wardrobe I currently have. To get out of my comfort zone a bit, and to have a little fun creating looks together. Looking at it now, I don't think it's so bad and I love the little embellishments on the cardigan that you can't see at first glance.

Daybreak

My original intent today was just to go home and get completely lost under my covers. For whatever reason I get into moods where I just read for long stretch's in the night, way until the early morning. Which of course then I resemble a zombie in The Walking Dead during the day (which I still need to catch up on that show)....it's not cute.

Anyway, my plan was just to come home and completely crash out with some soothing sounds of crashing waves on the beach (I have one of those meditation CD's with the cliche birds, oceans, waterfalls...you know.. elevator music). But during the car ride home, I noticed that finally a lot of snow had melted away and said -'to heck with it, let's get some photos done!'

Don't get me wrong, it's still freezing like a mother out here, and I'm dying for Spring to roll out so I can truly get this blog up and going with much better location shots...but this...this is good too. For now.

The Greatest Creation Yet! Red Velvet Pancakes!

It's a day before Valentine's Day, and I wanted to make something that would best satisfy cravings and would be apporiate for the day. Cupcakes are usually a safe bet for me (Red Velvet is supreme)...then I remembered stumbling onto this beauty:

Can you believe it! Red Velvet Pancakes! It's such an obvious choice slapping you right in the face. I can't believe I couldn't even think to create this myself first as a self-proclaimed Red Velvet lover! For shame...tsk,tsk.

Anyhow, I will be creating this brilliant masterpiece of fine food after this  post (wait for V Day, puh-lease!) but here is the recipe:
1 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

3 tablespoons white sugar

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

1 large egg, lightly beaten

3/4 buttermilk

1/4 cup creme fraiche or sour cream

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon red food coloring

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Mascarpone Spread:

4 oz softened mascarpone

2 oz creme fraiche

2 tablespoons white sugar

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon lemon zest

In a large bowl whisk together the dry ingredients. In a separate bowl whisk together the egg, buttermilk, and creme fraiche/sour cream, melted butter, red food coloring, and vanilla extract. Add them together and whisk just until combined. A little lumpy is fine. Heat a frying pan or griddle over medium high heat. When hot add butter or oil to grease, followed by a small scoop of the batter. Wait for the pancakes to bubble (2-3 minutes), flip and cook for a minute or two more. Meanwhile, mix all of the ingredients in the mascarpone spread together, and use to garnish the pancakes with some maple syrup!

There you have it. Here a few more photo's to tickle the fancy...

Love her style: LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl's Spring 2011

Once again Lauren releases another easy going, light, breezey and beautifully chic line.

What can I say, I just love how Lauren puts her self together. Her style  is always effortlessly chic (How many times can I say chic) with a touch of class.

Her new collection unveiled recently online and here a few of my personal favourites from the LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl's Spring 2011 Lookbook. While it stinks that Canadians are left out in the cold for her line, I'm hoping eventually they will make way across the border. Till then, enjoy...

Personal faves under the cut:

With a side of Pearl Milk Tea...

This dress was one of my most recent purchases from ModCloth and by far it's one of my favourites . It's of course a little short on my frame, but from some reason I really love that style with a side of tights (colourful or plain) to top it off. It floats around your body comfortably, the design is simple and sweet, you can mix it with multiple shades and you can easily belt it or throw a cardigan over it (which is what I should of done for this series of photos...but oooh nooo, I decided to be special and prance around majority of the time with just the dress while pretty much ensuring that I'll get a cold just in time for Valentine's Day, silly girl).

While it doesn't prove to be effective to ward off the nasty chill of typical Canadian winter (Seriously Canada, pull your stuff together already and bring forth Spring!), plus it may be a little steep in the price tag, it's still such a lovely dress and I have a feeling that I'll be featuring it a lot more in the future with this blog.
