Circle of Smoke

You've got to love funky scarves.

My closet continues to overflow with them ... to the point that it wants to belch them back out! Forever a chaotic bundle of colourful confusion! *shakes head*

You would think as a grown woman, I would learn some restraint, but nope. I will continue to bleed my waller dry so I can continue to feed the beast...Yes, I know you're playing a tiny little violin for my sorrow.

Hey..at least this particular scarf has some character.

Results Less Than Desirable

I'm not a hundred precent happy with this outfit .. but it'll have to do for today.

Don't get me wrong, I love this new ModCloth dress and the gorgeous show stopping collar that comes with it, but it isn't really styled in the way I wanted it to be for this post.

I had this great idea on paper but the actual execution was completely brutal on all levels. I've said in the past that fashion is all about having fun and feeling comfortable with your choices (not worrying about clashing and such) .. but good grief the result was just ...ugh!

I should have just taken the first disaster batch and post it anyway just so I could mock myself instantly, but I went back to the drawing board for a simpler and tamed down option. Hence the photo's you see here.

Ellen Page on Real Time {Vanishing of the Bees}

*disclaimer= I'm aware this isn't fashion and or style focused but I quite frankly don't give a darn about that (hee)*

For this late night feature post, I would like to present to you this great video of Ellen Page appearing on Real Time with Bill Maher recently. She is currently staring in the dark comedy Super (which I unluckily missed out on at TIFF) and I believe there are some US dates coming up soon (no Canadian ones that I can see as of yet), so check that one out for sure.

In the video posted below, Ellen speaks about a documentary called the Vanishing of the Bees, which she does the narration for.

Now, just as an aside .. I've loved this tiny Canadian girl ever since she made this statement:

I am a feminist and I am totally pro-choice, but what's funny is when you say that people assume that you are pro-abortion. I don't love abortion but I want women to be able to choose and I don't want white dudes in an office being able to make laws on things like this. I mean what are we going to do - go back to clothes hangers? [in the UK newspaper The Guardian, responding to being asked about the controversy aroused by her role in Juno (2007)] c/o Imdb

My love only continues to grow for her as she discusses amongst the panel the alarming rate of bees disappearing, while also pointing out the disconcerting primary focus the public has with the economy vs. the environment and failing to see how these two go hand in hand. She really conveys the urgency of the matter detailed in VotB well and truly gets the message across how action must be taken quickly (or the consequences will be astronomical - the effects can already be seen).

All in all.. I love her and here is the video & a bonus cute pic from the upcoming movie Super (if it gets taken down, you can also find it at Ellen Page Online):

Lace & Whiskey

I love the warm hue of the afternoons. I think I've mentioned before how much I enjoy sitting out in my backyard looking at nothing in particular. I know soon enough I'm going to have to move beyond my house and actually venture out to other areas for pictures, but I can't help going back to what's familiar.

Perhaps I'm just a little intimidated at the prospect of on lookers wondering what the heck I'm doing, taking several pictures of myself if I go out into the real world. Funny, I have no problem posting pictures of myself to post on the internet but the idea that maybe a couple of people maybe will stare at me like I'm one flew over the cuckoo's nest....huh.

The Statement Piece

I love collecting necklaces.

I have a huge antique jewelry stand that probably boasts over hundred or so necklaces. I have no idea why necklaces fascinate me so much but they just do ( the theory my friends share is that I get distracted by shiny, pretty things easily ...yeah, whatever).

This particular necklace from ModCloth performed a spell on me (I swear it did) and I just had to have it (never mind that it was on sale..*whistles*)!

It's brass, loud and a tad bit heavy but it does a wonderful job of bringing an outfit to life and then some! I don't care if people think it's tacky...I like it just fine thank you very much. What? It's flowers!

Back to Basics

*I know...SUPER BRIGHT! Unfortunately it has become a pattern to take my pictures at the back of my house and that is where the Sun directly faces. As it gets warmer, hopefully I can wonder beyond my castle..all in due time*

Sometimes, all you really need to throw on is your basic LBD. This dress is probably one of the cheapest dresses I currently own and funny enough probably my most favourite. Simply crafted A-Line shape and it slips on beautifully like a dream. Add a cardigan, tights and hat...there ya go!

I haven't been truly up to date with my blog but to be perfectly honest, the urge just wasn't there for a little bit. Life sort of just happened and a lot of personal dramas that I won't bore you with unfolded. Plus a history making disaster(s) rippled through the world wide news and it was far too depressing to even consider doing something of this nature at the time *( if you haven't already please do consider making a donation to The Red Cross or the Humanitarian Coalition, any little bit will help)*.

Anyhow here are the pictures for Monday (posted late):

Happy International Women's Day!

I know that women shouldn't just have one particular day set aside to make notice of the major contributions we make and continue to make in society, but nonetheless it still counts towards something. May this day, and many days hereafter be filled with admiration, appreciation, respect, equality and love.

As a side note, I find it interesting that just yesterday, while cruising youtube videos, one powerful video on the images of women used in advertising throughout history (to current times), came to my attention. The video is astutely named Killing Us Softly, presented by Jean Kilbourne. She actually has a whole series of these video's and I'm linking fourth (and I believe the most current) to this post. I don't want to butcher the poignant message behind this video and the others, but if you are currently reading this post, I highly recommend you allow yourself a few minutes to watch this video (if not all in the series). It truly is an eye opener and as sad it makes me to admit this, I have to say how deeply piercing it is to realize how these images affect how I view myself from a day to day basis. The old pride wants to kick in and say something akin to - 'I don't pay attention to ads! They don't affect me ! I know we aren't supposed to look that airbrushed in real life. I'll have you know that I'm 100% confident in my image all the time'...sigh...the reality...

I like that on days like today, we can celebrate and focus on the many achievements we make throughout the fabric of history (on social, economic and political levels) and that we don't have to be and shouldn't be reduced down to just...play things. That our worth is paramount. That we are not the unfeeling, caricatures of some unrealistic and offensive ideal. It's maddening and deeply depressing that after 40 years of talking about the subject matter, Jean still sadly has to report that not enough progress has been made.

The Blueberry Beret

HeHeHe...I know, again with the red, white and black. Oh nooooesss! Ah well *shrugs*

Just to mix things up a bit more, I shoehorned in blue with gray too! Shocking, isn't it! I'm breaking ground here people!

All kidding aside, this dress is one of my favourites in my closet and I actually thought about featuring it in my first post due to loving it so much. That didn't actually pan out. So here it is. Good ol' Sprinkled to Confection Dress.

Hush

Some days I really just enjoy the quiet moments outside. To just come home, settle in comfortably and then take a peak out in the backyard to stare at nothing in particular in the distance. Today is one of those days when my mind is a million miles away somewhere and focusing on the task at hand gets a little harder. Taking these photos for example took a lot longer than they needed to simply because I enjoyed taking in the peaceful moments. It may not look like it in the photos, due to me not smiling a whole lot, but the relaxation is there.

To be honest, I didn't really feel well through the duration of the day...I honestly felt like curling into a tiny ball and staying that way in a warm bed, drowning in covers. Why do I keep wanting and needing sleep when I'm supposed to be in the prime of my life, I don't know.

March is finally here and I'm hoping with everyday, the temp. will continue to warm up and that these little moments can continue to flourish.
